Dr. Klaus Schreiber received his MD degree from the University of Vienna, Austria. After several years of postgraduate training in pathology in Austria and the U.S. he entered a residency program at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York City affiliated with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. After two years, one of which he served as Chief Resident at Francis Delafield Hospital, he was accepted as a fellow in cytopathology of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center with the world-renowned cytopathologist Dr. Leopold Koss. Since the summer of 1974 when he was appointed Director of the Cytology Laboratory at Montefiore Medical Center, Dr. Schreiber has been working at this institution in very close association with Dr. Koss. During the following years he became an attending pathologist at Montefiore Medical Center and Professor of Pathology (clinical) at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

In the early 1990's Dr. Koss and Dr. Schreiber became associated with Mark Rutenberg and Thomas Hall MD, and the results were a number of seminal publications in the use of advanced neural network based image analysis systems for the detection of very small numbers of abnormal cells in cervical pap smears. Subsequently Dr. Schreiber and other associates proved the superior ability of these neural network systems to detect rare events in a variety of other organ systems. This work culminated in the recent systems for early detection of oral and esophageal cancer that are currently being provided by CDx. Dr. Schreiber joined CDx Diagnostics in 2011 in order to lend his 40 years of experience in diagnostic cytopathology to the expansion of our pathology services.
